What is SeroVital?
SeroVital is a human growth hormone (HGH) supplement that claims to promote anti-aging. However, there isn't enough evidence to prove whether it actually works. Learn about its claims, uses, risks, and more. Although SeroVital claims to increase HGH levels in the blood by 682%, leading to benefits such as muscle gain, weight loss, smoother skin, improved sleep quality, and increased stamina, none of these claims are supported by enough scientific or medical evidence, nor have they been evaluated or confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The official website of SeroVital has also declared this supplement is "not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease." According to FDA regulations, products sold as supplements should carry such a declaration. There are two SeroVital formulations, SeroVital and SeroVital Advanced. SeroVital supplements are sold in powder, liquid, and capsule forms.
What does SeroVital contain?
According to the label information, SeroVital contains a blend of certain amino acids. Although this supplement claims to increase the HGH levels, it does not actually contain HGH. The main SeroVital ingredients are:
- L-lysine hydrochloride (amino acid)
- L-arginine hydrochloride (amino acid)

- N acetylcysteine (amino acid derivative with antioxidant and mucolytic activities)

Other ingredients:

- Magnesium stearate
- Stearic acid

Another formulation from the same brand, called SeroVital Advanced, contains additional ingredients that include:

Does human growth hormone work in pill form?
HGH is only available in the form of injections and must be taken as prescribed for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency.
Are there HGH supplements available as pills?
HGH does not work in pill form, and it is not available in pill form either. HGH is a peptide (a short chain of amino acids linked together by peptide bonds) hormone, which would cease to be effective after being digested and broken down into constituent amino acids. Some companies claim their pills contain growth hormones or concoctions that can increase growth hormone production, but none of these claims have been scientifically proven. These HGH supplements are sold as dietary supplements and are not regulated by the FDA like drugs are, so they do not have to go through rigorous tests for safety and efficacy. Furthermore, HGH use is controlled by the FDA for specific medical purposes, making it illegal to use for purposes such as improving athletic performance or increasing muscle mass. Off-label use of human growth hormone or use of its unapproved preparations can cause serious and even life-threatening side effects.
Is growth hormone supplementation prohibited for athletes?
Growth hormone supplementation comes under the category of Anabolic Agents on the World Anti-Doping Agency or WADA's list of prohibited substances. Athletes at all levels (including elite, junior, or master-level athletes) are therefore prohibited from consuming these products. If an athlete has been prescribed growth hormone for a medical condition, they must have an approved therapeutic use exemption in order to use it during sports.
QUESTION
Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about SeroVital
What is the downside of SeroVital?
The primary downside of SeroVital is that there is inadequate scientific evidence for its efficacy and safety. The claim of its ability to increase HGH by 682% with one oral dose comes from the manufacturer's own study on just 16 healthy adults (12 men and 4 women), all in their 30s. There are no other large-scale clinical studies or peer reviews to prove this. Secondly, human growth hormone does not directly promote growth, it stimulates the release of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). IGF-1 promotes bone and muscle growth and reduces fat storage. There are no reports on whether the increase in HGH found in the study actually caused the release of IGF-1, or if it resulted in any benefits for the participants. There are no studies on the safety of long-term use of SeroVital either. One other study conducted in 2019, in adults of average age 67 with symptoms of low HGH, found positive results with the use of SeroVital for 24 weeks. However, these results have not been evaluated by the FDA. There are reviews from some customers who report positive improvements, but it is not clear that the effects are directly from SeroVital. For instance, people who lose weight are also on a weight-loss diet and an exercise regimen. SeroVital side effects reported by some users include:
- Nausea
- Heartburn
- Acne
- Fatigue
- Joint pain
- Swelling of extremities
- Headaches
- Vertigo (spinning sensation)
How long does SeroVital take to work?
The SeroVital company website states it can take 3 to 6 months of consistent use to see results if you also follow a healthy lifestyle with exercise and a healthy diet. There are no large-scale peer-reviewed studies to determine if this is correct. There is no clear proof if positive results are from a healthy lifestyle itself, or if any of the credit goes to SeroVital. In addition, you have to keep taking it to see results, which can be an expensive proposition for results that are debatable at best.
What happens when you stop taking SeroVital?
There are no studies on what happens after discontinuation of SeroVital after use for any extended period. According to the information on the company website, there are no withdrawal symptoms, and the only effect is that you don't feel "younger" anymore and start feeling your age.
Does SeroVital get rid of wrinkles?
The product label claims it makes the skin more moisturized, elastic, and smoother, reducing wrinkles, however, there is no scientific evidence or clinical studies to establish this effect.
What happens if a woman takes HGH?
HGH is approved by the FDA for specific uses in children and adults with growth hormone deficiency because of certain health conditions. It is not approved for use in otherwise healthy adults, men or women, as an anti-aging or wellness therapy, although some people get HGH shots from doctors who prescribe them for such purposes. HGH use by athletes is illegal unless they have a medical condition for which its use is approved by the FDA. If a woman takes prescribed HGH for approved conditions which include short bowel syndrome, HGH deficiency due to pituitary tumors or their treatment, and muscle-wasting disease due to HIV or AIDS, she is likely to see an increase in muscle mass, reduced body fat, better bone health, and improvement in ability to exercise. Young girls with growth hormone deficiency, short stature, Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, or chronic kidney disease can benefit by achieving better growth during their growing years. SeroVital, on the other hand, is a dietary supplement and there is no scientific evidence it results in any benefits for a woman. In women with breast cancer or a high risk for it, growth hormone may increase the risk of cancer cell growth.
What are 3 possible negative side effects of using HGH?
Three possible negative side effects of using HGH are carpal tunnel syndrome, swelling due to fluid retention (edema), and joint pain. A few additional side effects include muscle pain, nerve pain, numbness and tingling, a higher risk for high blood sugar and diabetes, a higher risk for cancer, and high cholesterol levels. The decline in HCG levels with age is normal, and it may protect against some cancers.
